- Name: Steve Lilly
- Nickname: Lip
- Occupation: Civil Engineer
- Instrument/Position in Band: Principal Cornet
- Previous Bands: Coventry Imperial Band - folded in 1984. Also short stints with Edgehill in Liverpool and City of Oxford while at university
- When did you start playing? What got you into banding?: In 1977 at the age of 12. I went to ask my friend to play football, but he couldn't because he was going to 'band'. When he showed me his cornet, and said I could get one free from the band, I couldn't resist joining.
- Funniest or Most Embarrassing Banding Moment: Helping the percussion off stage at the area contest in 1982. A cymbal fell off the stand and rolled straight through the flowers at the front, knocking three trophies over! I got a standing ovation from a packed De Montford Hall.
- Highlight of Banding Career: National Finals, Albert Hall 2000. I thought my chance to play there had passed me by.
- Other hobbies/interests: Occasional 5 a side football, but banding takes up too much time for anything else.
- Related to anyone else in the band? If so, who?: My dad is Dave Lilly - E flat bass.
- Favourite tipple?: Coffee with about 8 sugars just before a contest - the only time I take sugar!
- Any other comments?: I joined the band in 1989 in the 4th section for 'a couple of contests' as a favour to my dad. 15 years later and I'm still here!
