(updated 27th November 2006):

The band played in the West Midlands Brass Band Association contest at Leamington yesterday, and were delighted at gaining 2nd place in the First Section, improving on last weeks 3rd place at Leicester.

Thanks to everyone for their hard work over the last few weeks, including guest players Dave and Roger.

The hard work doesn't stop there and our busy Christmas programme starts up later this week. To hear the band play, please come to our Christmas concert on Friday 8th December at St Paul's Church, Church Road, Stockingford, Nuneaton. Tickets can be bought at the door.

(updated 20th November 2006):

The band have been very busy over the last few weeks rehearsing for a number of concerts and competitions. We played at Pontins on 4th November where we came 11th, and yesterday we played at Leicester, where we acheived 3rd place! We're playing again this coming Sunday at Leamington, before we launch into our busy Christmas period.

(updated 13th May 2006):

The band played to a packed audience last night at Bedworth Civic Hall. The band would like to thank everyone concerned, especially our two guest singers, Julie Hill and Colin Simmons, as well as our hard working conductor, Colin Randle.

We hope you enjoyed our concert! Colin did invite suggestions for our 10th anniversary concert next year, so why not send me an email? Email a suggestion by clicking here.

Finally, we have a new guestbook on the site after we had problems with the last one. If you fancy leaving a comment, please do so!

(updated 2nd May 2006):

Bedworth Brass will be kicking off their 2006 concert season with their ninth annual concert at The Civic Hall in Bedworth on Friday 12 May 2006.

This popular local band, based at the Nicholas Chamberlaine Technology College in Bedworth, has been working hard to prepare for this concert following a very successful season on the brass band contest circuit which saw them represent the town at the finals of the National Championships.

Following the success of last year’s concert the band have once again prepared a programme to demonstrate their wide and varied repertoire including a ‘big band’ section for which Musical Director of the band, Colin Randle has specially arranged a number of the pieces. Speaking on behalf of the band Colin commented “We are always seeking new ways to widen our audience base by challenging the traditional perception of brass band music. We are pleased to be joined for this concert by guest vocalists Julie Hill and Colin Simmons with whom we will showcase music from Mozart to Robbie Williams”.

If you are looking for something a little different, featuring local musicians performing to the highest standards, this event is not to be missed.

The concert at the Civic Hall is promoted by the band and tickets, priced at £6 each are available direct from the box office or by ringing 024 7633 4899.

The band would also like to take this opportunity to welcome some new players to the band. Gary Horne and Marcus Teagles have both joined on cornet and Edwin Stinton has joined on B flat Bass. Please see the updated players list for more details.

Finally, please visit our Events page for details of more concerts coming during the year!

Press Release

Bedworth Brass are delighted to report that after a three year absence they returned to their home town at the beginning of September 2005 and will now be permanently based at Nicholas Chamberlaine Technology College in Bedworth.

A series of rehearsals were held there earlier this year as the band temporarily required a larger space to practise whilst preparing a ‘Big Band’ set for their Annual Concert at the Civic Hall in Bedworth. This led to further discussions and a subsequent invitation from the college to rehearse regularly in the purpose built Phoenix Theatre located in the grounds.

The move comes as Bedworth Brass prepare for the finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in Harrogate on 25 September 2005, where they will represent the Midlands Area in the First Section. Timed to coincide with this appearance, Bedworth Brass recently took delivery of a new set of made to measure uniforms. The band have been working hard for the past few years, undertaking additional concerts and fundraising to replace their existing jackets, and are delighted to have finally accrued sufficient funds to complete the £7,000 purchase.

Speaking for Bedworth Brass, Dave Lilly commented “We are grateful for the fantastic support we have received from the Nuneaton Ex-Serviceman’s Club where we have been based since 2002. They stepped in to offer us a base when our previous rehearsal venue in Bedworth closed and the Club Stewards Paul and Pam could not have been more accommodating. The invitation to return to Bedworth, rehearsing in a purpose built acoustic with the opportunity to involve brass students at the school in the future of the band was, however, too good to turn down. We are enjoying preparing for the National Finals with our Musical Director Colin Randle and these recent developments have given the band a real boost.”

End of Press Release.

Congratulations!

Alan Darlison (2nd Euphonium) married Claire Farndon on 13th August. It was a real band affair... Claire is the daughter of previous band secretary Maurice Farndon, the best man was Jason Purkiss (Flugel), and the bridesmaids included Nicola Ashley (previously 2nd Horn), and Julie Meikle (2nd Cornet).

The band played at the service, and would like to wish them a long and happy future together!

Hi folks!

The following updates have been done:

(updated 1st February 2004):

Press Release

Bedworth Brass, based near Coventry, enter 2004 on a high following their most successful year to date on the contest circuit. Highlights included wins at the Wychavon and Belvoir Castle entertainment contests with second and fourth places respectively at the Leamington and Leicester contests at the end of 2003.

On the playing side the band are delighted to welcome Andy Gardner to the cornet section in time for the Area Contest. Formerly principal cornet player for Rolls Royce (Coventry) band before taking some time away from banding, Andy deputised at contests for the band in the latter part of 2003 and has now decided to make the move permanent.

Unfortunately the band were disappointed to learn just prior to Christmas that their Musical Director, David Williams, will be leaving the band after the Area Contest due to work commitments requiring him to spend time in Italy over the coming months. Band Secretary, Maurice Farndon, commented "David's enthusiasm and drive over the last couple of years have really pushed the band forward and the recent contest successes owe a lot to his hard work. Having only been promoted to the First Section in 2001 we feel that he has developed us to a standard where we can now hold our own in this section."

The band will be advertising shortly for a replacement to commence with the band in early March 2004. In the meantime any interested applicants are welcome to apply to Maurice Farndon on 02476 313083.

End of Press Release.

Congratulations!

Alan Darlison (2nd Euphonium) got engaged last week! Alan will be marrying Claire Farndon next year. He promises to make her very happy, and Maurice Farndon, (Band Secretary and soon to be father in law) will be on hand to see that he does! Congratulations from all in the band.
