Guy Bennett GGSM PGCE - Musical Director

Guy Bennett was born in 1958 and lived his first eighteen years in Clacton-on-Sea. At the age of eleven he began learning to play the trombone and by thirteen was playing with the Clacton-on-Sea Band, becoming assistant conductor at fifteen.

These early experiences led to further study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from where he graduated in 1979. He was awarded the Post Graduate Certificate in Education the following year at which point he took up his appointment as Resident Brass Specialist at Giggleswick School, North Yorkshire. He conducted the Giggleswick and Settle Band and then the Skipton Band whilst there.

In 1987 he moved south to Bedford School to take up his current position as Head of Brass & Percussion. He was Musical Director to the Brackley Band for three years and Welwyn Garden City for four but retired from brass band conducting for ten years when appointed a boarding housemaster at Bedford School. Following several guest appearances with Bedford Town Band he was appointed Musical Director in 2002, a position he held for three years. For fifteen years he has been an examiner for Guildhall and now Trinity Guildhall music exams which has given him the opportunity of travelling widely across the UK, Eire, India and Thailand.

He was appointed Musical Director of Bedworth Brass at the end of 2008.
